On her wedding day, Sophia received a strange letter from an unknown person.
It contained one sentence: “Ask your future husband where he was ten years ago.”
Sophia was frightened. During the ceremony, she quietly asked Michael about the letter. His face turned pale.
“I wanted to tell you,” he whispered, “but I was afraid you would never look at me the same way.”
Ten years earlier, Michael had been a poor teenager. One rainy evening, he had found a little girl crying beside a hospital entrance. Her mother had collapsed, and nobody was helping them.
Michael carried the woman inside and stayed with the child until her relatives arrived. The family had searched for the mysterious boy for years.
Sophia began to cry. The little girl had been her.
She had forgotten his face, but he had never forgotten the night he helped her family.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” she asked.
Michael smiled sadly. “I wanted you to love the man I became, not feel that you owed me something.”
Sophia took his hand and continued the wedding.
