When Peter lost his job, his friends disappeared, and his relatives told his wife, Anna, to leave him before she became poor too.
They lived in a tiny room, sometimes eating only rice for dinner. Peter felt ashamed whenever he looked at his wife’s tired face.
One night, he told her, “You deserve a better husband. I have nothing to give you.”
Anna held his hands and answered, “I didn’t marry your salary. I married your heart.”
She began selling homemade cakes while Peter searched for work. Every morning, they encouraged each other, even when nobody bought her cakes.
After months of struggle, a local café owner tasted one of Anna’s cakes and ordered hundreds. Their small business slowly grew.
Five years later, Peter opened his own bakery and surprised Anna with a new house.
He placed the keys in her hand and whispered, “You stayed with me when I had nothing. This home belongs to you.”
Anna cried, remembering the nights they had gone to bed hungry.
Then Peter added, “But if I lost everything tomorrow, I would still be the richest man because I have you.”
The lesson: Real love is not proven during comfortable days. It is proven when life becomes difficult.
