When Lily fell in love with Ethan, his mother was already seriously ill.
She welcomed Lily warmly and often spoke about the kind of life she hoped her son would have.
Before she died, she took Lily’s hand.

Lily promised to support him.
After the funeral, Ethan withdrew from everyone. He stopped working regularly, ignored friends, and spent long nights looking through old photographs.
Lily tried to comfort him, but he pushed her away.

She finally told him that she could love him through grief, but she could not force him to accept help.
Ethan eventually agreed to speak with a counselor and slowly began rebuilding his routine.
Lily remained beside him, while also protecting her own emotional well-being.
Months later, Ethan returned to work and began cooking the meals his mother had taught him to make.
One evening, he prepared dinner for Lily.
“I thought keeping my sadness inside was the only way to remember her,” he said.
Lily smiled gently.
“You can remember her and still live.”
They married a year later.
At their wedding, Ethan placed a photograph of his mother on a small table beside the flowers.
