A monk in Tibet had not spoken for twenty years.
Travelers came to see him.
One day, a young traveler asked:
“Why don’t you speak?”
The monk wrote on a piece of paper:
“Because I spent my first twenty years speaking without listening.”
The traveler sat beside him.
They watched the mountains together.
Hours passed.
Neither spoke.
When the traveler finally left, he realized he had learned something without hearing a single spoken word.
Years later, he became a teacher.
His favorite lesson was simple:
“Sometimes silence teaches more than conversation.”
