The Mountain That Whispered

Deep in the Himalayas, villagers spoke of a mountain that whispered at night.

A young climber named Arun decided to investigate.

He climbed for three days through snow and freezing wind.

On the fourth night, he heard it.

A soft voice traveled through the valley.

“Listen.”

Arun stopped.

Again:

“Listen.”

He followed the sound to a narrow cave.

Inside, he discovered hundreds of small metal bells hanging from the ceiling.

When the wind passed through the cave, the bells produced a beautiful melody.

An inscription on the wall explained that travelers had placed the bells there centuries earlier.

Each bell represented a wish.

Arun added one of his own.

He wished that people would learn to listen before speaking.

Then he descended the mountain.

Years later, he became a teacher.

Whenever his students argued, he told them about the mountain.

“The world is full of voices,” he said.

“But wisdom begins when we learn to listen.”

And every winter, when the mountain winds blew through the distant valleys, Arun imagined the bells still singing.
