The Boy Who Built Her a House

When Ethan met Lily, she was living with her younger sister in a leaking wooden house. Their parents had died, and Lily worked long hours at a roadside food stall to support them.

Ethan was a carpenter who earned very little, but he admired Lily’s courage.

They fell in love, and he promised to build her a safe home one day.

Lily laughed.

“Start by fixing the roof.”

Ethan repaired it for free.

Afterward, he began saving money to buy materials for a stronger house. Whenever he had spare wood, he built furniture and sold it in the market.

Their progress was painfully slow.

Some months, unexpected expenses consumed every dollar they had saved.

Once, Ethan considered giving up the dream.

Lily took his hand.

“I don’t need a big house. I need a place where we can stop worrying about the rain.”

They worked together, with Lily preparing meals for workers and Ethan building during weekends.

After several years, they completed a modest two-room house with a solid roof, a small kitchen, and a garden.

On the day they moved in, Lily stood in the doorway and cried.

Ethan worried that something was wrong.

She shook her head.

“I spent so many nights wondering whether we would ever feel safe.”

Ethan embraced her.

Their house was not impressive to wealthy visitors, but every wall carried years of effort, sacrifice, and shared hope.

It became the place where they raised their children and welcomed neighbors who needed help.

And whenever it rained, Lily sat beside the window smiling at the sound of water falling safely outside.
