In a remote village, Anna and Peter were young and desperately poor.
A famine destroyed their crops.
Food became scarce.
Peter secretly gave Anna his share of bread.
Anna discovered it.
“You haven’t eaten.”
Peter smiled.
“I wasn’t hungry.”
She knew he was lying.
The next morning, Anna found work in a distant town.
She promised to return.
For two years, she worked and sent money home.
When she returned, Peter had rebuilt the farm.
They married beside the first field they planted together.
Years later, their farm became prosperous.
But they never wasted food.
Every harvest, they donated part of it to poor families.
Their children asked why.
Peter always answered,
“Because once, someone loved me enough to go hungry.”
